2025 Young Artists Competition Guidelines and Application
The Guam Symphony Society cordially invites young musicians to enter the annual Young Artists Competition on January 29th and 30th, 2025.
Who: Young Artists of voice, piano, strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion are invited to apply.
When: Wednesday, January 29th and Thursday, January 30th.
Where: University of Guam Fine Arts Theater.
Eligibility: Musicians must be between 6 and 18 years of age at time of audition.
How: Young Artists are to come prepared to perform one complete movement of a work or two contrasting arias. Accompanists are the responsibility of and must be provided by the young artists
All performers are required to compete on Wednesday, January 29th to a closed panel of judges. If necessary due to the number of applicants, the competition will continue on Thursday, January 30th.
Categories: Contestants will be divided into the following categories:
1. Elementary – 3rd to 6th grade
2. Junior- 7th to 9th grade
3. Senior – 10th – 12th grade
Prizes: There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize awarded in each category. Decisions by the judges are final.
Winners will be announced on Friday, February 1, 2025.
Awards Concert: There will be a concert for the winners of the competition on Sunday February, 9th, 2025 3pm at the University of Guam Fine Arts Theater.
Application:
Selected audition works must be from the standard repertoire performed in original key and/or language (unless changed by concert tradition), and performed from memory or fluently with score.
Vocalists should prepare two (2) arias of contrasting styles.
Applicants should consult with a music teacher regarding the performance selection(s).
Applicants must provide one (1) copy of their selection(s) for the judges with the application.
Applicants must submit one of recommendation with their application from their principal music teacher.
A digital headshot photograph of the applicant must be submitted to theguamsymphony@gmail.com with applicant’s name in the subject line.
An entry fee of $100 must be submitted with the application. Make checks payable to Guam Symphony Society. You may opt to pay on the day of the competition if you email your application. Checks or cash are accepted. Please see below.

Entry forms and all required materials must be received NO LATER than January 24, 2025 to allow sufficient time for audition scheduling and notification. You may email the application form and pay on the day of the competition, however the email must be received by January 24th.
